MISSION OUTREACH AT THE SOMESVILLE UNION MEETING HOUSE

HERE AND THERE for Mission:1

11/1/11 to 11/11/11

SUMH has joined other UCC congregations in Mission:1, a collective mission campaign to take place these first 11 days of November. We have set a goal of raising $1,111.11 for the Eastern Horn of Africa. Fund-raising for relief efforts was launched on October 23 with our Fast for Africa program.

  • 11 Thanksgiving Basket items 
  • 11 Minutes a day volunteering
  • 11 Food Pantry items
  • $11.11 Fast For Africa donation (or $22.22, or $33.33, or 44.44, or $111.11)
  • 11 Letters to Congress to reform foreign aid policy

Can you think of other ways to help at home or abroad in"ones" or "elevens" or 111's?
 
Between 11-1 and 11-11, we are inviting all church family members to:
  • Bring 11 non-perishable food or household items—anything from soup to pet food, from diapers to tuna, are always welcome. OR...
  • Bring 11 donations of canned and boxed goods for Thanksgiving dinner baskets—needed items (no cranberry sauce, please) include the following: canned vegetables, canned yams, gravy (chicken and turkey), stuffing mix, canned fruit, sweet bread/biscuit/corn bread mixes, canned pineapple, tuna, and pasta.
  • Bring money donations for relief efforts in the Eastern Horn of Africa or for the two local food pantries.
 
You may wish to take 11 minutes of your day, for the first 11 days of November, to make the world a better place. Or think about a cumulative 111 minutes helping Island Connections, Next Step, or another charity.
