Acknowledgement of Native American Peoples
(An act towards reconciliation)
For thousands of years Indigenous people walked in this land, Living in a sustainable way, honoring the native fauna and flora, respecting the watershed. The relationship of the Penobscot with the waters and land is at the center of their lives.
We acknowledge the Penobscot Nation, past, present, and emerging leaders, and their stewardship of this land throughout the ages.
Somesville Union Meeting House is a "Just Peace Church." That includes promotion of Racial Justice. In this pivotal time of marches and demonstrations, we stand with God's people for racial equality and for an end to police violence and brutality. SUMH has been offering "Conversations on Race & Privilege", looking at books like Debby Irving's "Waking Up White" and screening the PBS Series on "Reconstruction" - see "Events" page.
